RF Photonic Engineer

Photonic Systems, Inc. (PSI) designs and manufactures innovative RF front-end solutions for a wide range of defense, wireless communications, research, and government customers.  PSI’s products and engineering services impart advanced performance to applications ranging from the transmission of RF signals over fiber optic cable for antenna remoting to single or MIMO-based antenna interfaces with game-changing new capabilities such as simultaneous transmit and receive (STAR) using the same RF frequency channel.  PSI is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer with Program Management expertise who thrives in dynamic innovative work environments.

Job Description

 Under the direction of the Vice President of Research & Development, staff members holding this position:

  • Design electronic and photonic hardware to support externally and internally funded research and development programs and to generate new commercial products
  • Iterate and troubleshoot hardware designs
  • Perform tests and measurements on electronic and photonic components, modules, and systems
  • Generate and maintain organized documentation of design configurations and all measured data associated with them
  • Provide presentation materials for, and participate in, meetings and performance reviews with customers
  • Compose written material for reports and proposals
  • Assist with product improvement activities and new product introduction

Key Qualifications

  • US citizenship
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with three years experience in electronic or optoelectronic test, assembly and evaluation, or Associate of Science (AS) degree with eight years of such experience
  • Understanding of fiber optics, RF subsystems, RF over fiber, and optical communications, including understanding of all relevant figures of merit
  • Understanding of active and passive RF and optical component performance models
  • Experience with RF spectrum analyzer, network analyzer and oscilloscope
  • Experience with splicing and handling of optical fibers
  • Ability to design for manufacturability and to collaborate with a mechanical designer
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multitask, effectively manage time, prioritize workload and work under firm and quick turnaround deadlines
  • Current or past DoD security clearance a plus
